My Name Is Khan has opened to a bumper response in India. Multiplexes across the country are recording phenomenal collections with major multiplexes being 100% for the first two shows. Wave Ludhiana, Fun Chandigarh, Wave Noida, Inox Kolkata, PVR Bangalore and Fun Bangalore amongst others have seen full houses in the morning for the first two shows.



Mumbai which is having a limited release is also extraordinary. Fun had their first show in the city at 12.00 and recorded 100% collections. The business at single screens is lower than multiplexes but still very good. Delhi and Kolkata single screens are super strong. Despite the problems in Mumbai the film will record very high collections on day one.

My Name Is Khan has is unstoppable on day one at the box office. The film has had certain groups trying to stop the release and make it hard for exhibitors to give it a release with the threat of vandalism of their properties looming. But the public has come out in full support for the film wherever it was being screened.



There have been reports of trouble in Mumbai, Nagpur, Nasik, Sangli and a few other incidents at other places but this has not stopped the public coming out in droves to show support for the film and Shahrukh Khan. Multiplexes in the North which is far from the trouble has seen phenomenal collections with 100% collections in Delhi NCR, Chandigarh and Ludhiana. South and West Bengal has also witnessed humungous collections especially Bangalore.




My Name Is Khan is a film which is aimed mainly at urban and overseas audience but even single screens have seen very big response around the 80% mark. The aim of the activists against the film was probably to make it a show a no-show but the opposite has happened and the controversy has helped the film tremendously and even at places where a big opening was not expected, My Name Is Khan has managed to attract big crowds.
